Safeguarding
Keeping people safe, supported, and respected

At STEMPunx, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do.

We are committed to creating a safe, calm, and inclusive environment where children and young people feel secure, respected, and able to engage at their own pace. Our approach is grounded in emotional safety as well as physical safety, recognising that children learn best when they feel regulated, supported, and understood.

Safeguarding is not a separate process for us—it is embedded into every session, every interaction, and every decision we make.

Our Approach

We follow a Regulation-First approach, which means:

-
We prioritise emotional safety alongside physical safety
-
We use calm, consistent communication
-
We reduce pressure, demand, and overwhelm
-
We support children to engage in ways that feel safe for them
-
Participation is always flexible and never forced

This approach is particularly supportive for children who are neurodivergent, anxious, or returning to group environments.

Our Responsibilities

We take our safeguarding responsibilities seriously and ensure that:
-
All staff and volunteers are safely recruited and DBS checked
-
Team members receive regular safeguarding training
-
We maintain clear procedures for reporting and responding to concerns
-
A Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is always in place
-
We work in line with UK safeguarding guidance and local authority expectations

What This Means in Practice

During sessions, you can expect:
-
Small group sizes for better supervision and support
-
Clear boundaries delivered in a calm, respectful way
-
Staff who are attentive, approachable, and responsive
-
A focus on de-escalation and regulation rather than punishment
-
Children being supported to take breaks or step back when needed

Working with Parents and Carers

We believe safeguarding works best when there is open, honest communication.
We will:
-
Share relevant information where appropriate
-
Listen to concerns and take them seriously
-
Work collaboratively to support each child’s needs

If there are any important details we should know before a session, we encourage you to share them with us.

Reporting a Concern

If you have a safeguarding concern, please contact us as soon as possible.
All concerns are taken seriously and handled sensitively, in line with our safeguarding procedures.

Our goal is simple:
To provide a space where children feel safe enough to explore, create, and grow—with the right support around them.
If you would like to know more about our safeguarding approach, we are always happy to talk things through.
